About Richard Hamersma

Canaan

Richard Hamersma

Genre: Folk/Acoustic, Indie

A timeless spiritual quest for the meaning of life, informed by timely observations about the bloodshed being spilled on sacred land that should hold a promise of peace for all.

One way sign in grimy street scene

I’m sitting all alone
Getting stuck in a dream
I should know better by now
That it don’t mean a thing
Still I want to go back
To that time and place
To feel the beat of your heart
Be embraced by your face

Guess I’ll walk out alone
In the dark once again
Think whatever happens
I’ll treat as a friend
Haven’t given up hope
It’s there in the sky
And I still see the stars
Coming out of your eyes

Earth soaked with blood
Air full of grime
All sense of goodness
Is escaping mankind
I’ll climb up that mountain
Beyond the valley of tears
I’m going to get to Canaan
Before it disappears

I’m feeling so weary
Shot through with pain
Trying hard to hold on
To whatever remains
I know where to go
When I want to feel safe
I go deep in my soul
Find my own sacred place

Now the night’s falling down
Shadows are fast creeping in
Need to let go of the past
Of what might have been
Haven’t given up hope
It’s there in the sky
I still see the stars
Coming out of your eyes

Chorus:
Oh…before it disappears
